Active Key, Cherry’s specialist provider of hygienic keyboards and mice, has now developed a new desktop set that meets the hygiene recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute: an easy-to-wipe and disinfect keyboard with abrasion-resistant lettering and a profile so flat that no liquid residue remains from disinfection. The two computer mice with 3-button scroll or scroll sensor are also waterproof and easy to clean thanks to their crevice-free design. Thanks to the blue light sensor, they can be used on any shiny surface.
Munich, 15.01.2024 - Computers and technical devices with touchscreens have long been part of basic hospital equipment. These so-called high-touch items are considered to be one of the biggest sources of the spread of multi-resistant germs. This is also confirmed by a study conducted by the University of Seattle: 14 percent of the 2,800 tablets, keyboards and computer mice tested were contaminated with the staphylococcus strain MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

The Hygiene Desktop 2 is therefore ideal for extensive and complex data entry in hospitals, doctors' surgeries and laboratories.
The disinfection of devices is mandatory in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. With standard office keyboards, contaminated cleaning fluid could leak out of the gaps, and it is also possible that functionality could be impaired if liquids run into the housing. With conventional hygiene keyboards, the key profile is raised in such a way that contaminated cleaning fluid collects in the gaps between the keys, which is why the germs that survive in the fluid can in turn be carried on by the staff.
"The new hygienic desktop not only ensures fast and comfortable data entry thanks to its ergonomic design and key stroke. It also helps users to enter the next patient consultation with truly disinfected hands. Other brands' products have not yet been able to offer this with optimal usability," explains Reinhard Fischer, Director Product Management at Active Key GmbH.
